Employment
This section provides information on employment within Derry~Londonderry, including the breakdown by industrial sector as reported in the 2011 Census of Employment and the Regeneration Plan employment projections to 2020 estimated from Oxford Economics Econometric Model.
Labour Force Survey:
- For the quarter October – December 2012, there were 41,000 people employed in the Derry-Londonderry district council area. This led to a 16-64 employment rate of 59.3%.

There are over 41,000 employee jobs in Derry~Londonderry. During the last years of the economic boom, 2005-2007, there was a growth in the total number of employee jobs of 4.6%, exceeding the NI rate of growth of 4.0%.

Derry~Londonderry has had a decrease of 3.3% in employee jobs since the peak of the economic boom (NI: decrease of 4.1%)
- The total number of employees jobs within the Manufacturing sector stood at 3,608 or 8.7% of employees (NI: 73,997 or 10.9%).
- The total number of employees jobs within the Services sector stood at 35,894 or 86.9% of employees (NI: 566,153 or 83.1%).
- Overall, females held 55% of all employee jobs with males holding 45%.
