Information on Tourism within Derry~Londonderry such as visitor numbers, accommodation stock, employment within tourism related industries and associated information from Department of Enterprise, Trade & Investment (DETI) and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) can be accessed below.

NITB Monthly Update
NITB produce a monthly report "Discover Monthly Intelligence Report" which outlines tourism related information across Northern Ireland.  The most current report including information relating to Derry~Londonderry can be accessed here NITB monthly update 

Tourism Official Statistics
The majority of tourism data is available at Northern Ireland level.  DETI published the 2011 Tourism Performance Estimates report for Northern Ireland on 12th April 2012.  This provides a summary of the tourism performance measures produced and sourced by Tourism Statistics Branch, DETI for January - December 2011. The main findings are:

Number of overseas visitors to NI
 
  • During 2011, 1.5 million overseas visitors stayed at least one night in NI, an increase of 4% when compared with 2010.
Domestic tourism
  • During 2011, NI residents took 1.9 million overnight trips and 2.3 million tourism day trips within NI.
Accomodation occupancy
  • During 2011, an estimated 1,968,000 hotel, guesthouse and bed & breakfast rooms were sold, an increase of 4% when compared with 2010.


Tourism and Leisure employee jobs

  • At December 2011 the NI Quarterly Employment Survey (QES) estimated that tourism and leisure jobs accounted for 54,080 jobs in NI, 8% of all employee jobs in NI.

Local Authority Estimates
The most current visitor information available at a local level relates to the period 2007- 2009. The estimates for 2009 are shown in the table below:

DETI are currently working with ONS methodologists to develop the availability of local authority estimates.  The data will be presented here as soon as the information is available.
