Ilex, the urban regeneration company today announced that the city’s new shared space, Ebrington Square, will be officially opened on February 14th 2012. Ilex is adding the finishing touches to the programme which promises to be a special Valentine’s Night for everyone. Full details will be issued in the coming weeks.
CaoimhĂn Corrigan, Ilex’s Cultural Broker explained: “The opening of Ebrington Square is a further significant milestone for Ilex following the success of the Peace Bridge. More importantly, it is a major celebration for everyone to take ownership of what will be our largest urban space. With Derry~Londonderry at the heart of what we do, and building on the brilliant City of Culture campaign, we are again gathering the public’s ideas as to what they love about their city. Some of these contributions may feature on the night itself.
We are also placing a time capsule in Ebrington Square and asking the public for suggestions as to what we might include in it. Items should give an idea of city life in 2012, the events that shaped us and our hopes for the future. As the square opens on Valentine’s Day, we’d also like the public to tell us what they love about their city”.
