An Gaeláras, Cultúrlann Uí Chanain
Irish Language and Cultural Centre
Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin is a purpose built Irish language, arts and business centre providing a social hub for the Irish language community in the North West. It is run by the community group An Gaeláras and has become a space for learning, creativity, exploration and enterprise and a beacon for the Irish speakers throughout the island of Ireland. The centre offers Irish language classes, traditional music classes, dance classes, youth club facilities, café space, conference facilities, concerts / events and festivals. The state of the art building has become a modern landmark for the city and was nominated for the prestigious World Architecture Festival in Barcelona in 2010, where it achieved second place in the Civic and Community category.
