Apprentice Boys Hall

“The Mem” was built in 1871 on a site known as Foy’s Factory located on the corner of Society Street and Magazine Street.  The building was designed originally by John Guy Ferguson, and is in the neo-gothic style, with a strong Scottish baronial facade.
The Apprentice Boys of Derry are developing a proposal to extend the existing Memorial Hall to house a heritage centre focusing on the Siege of Derry, history of the Apprentice Boys and related local culture and history.  The project is estimated to cost around £2.5 million and it is hoped that it will be completed by 2013, the 400th Anniversary of its Royal Charter and the prelude year to 2014, the 300th anniversary of the establishment of the first Apprentice Boys Club. The completion of work on the Memorial Hall will coincide with the UK City of Culture 2013.
