ILEX OUTLINES REGENERATION PLANS TO DEPUTY FIRST MINISTER

Urban regeneration company Ilex today met deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness to present their regeneration programme for the city in general, and for Ebrington and Fort George in particular.
 
Recently appointed Chairman of Ilex, Sir Roy McNulty said:
“We very much welcome the opportunity to outline the many regeneration projects throughout the city to the deputy First Minister and are particularly pleased to update him on progress being made on Ebrington which is owned by OFMDFM”.

“The deputy First Minister’s visit to Ebrington has allowed him see at first hand the line of the foot and cycle bridge which will run from behind the Guildhall onto the former Parade Ground, providing a new and vast public space for the entire city”.

Northern Ireland’s only Urban Regeneration Company Ilex was set up in 2003 by the Office of the First and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) and the Department for Social Development (DSD) to plan, develop and sustain the economic, physical and social regeneration of the Derry City Council area.
Ilex’s strategic objectives are:
 
  • To create and promote the coordinated regeneration of the Derry City Council area generally and to facilitate its implementation in cooperation with DSD, other relevant government departments, Derry City Council, the private sector and other interested parties; and
 
  • To secure the economic, social and physical regeneration of the Ebrington and Fort George sites
